Today we said good bye to this fireplace, or at least started saying good bye.  It's the fourth time we have ripped out a fireplace like this.  At one time in the late 60s and early 70s, they were de rigueur.   I think my brother John built one similar in his house in Holland Street, Blackburn.  He also built a bar in the corner of the middle room. Whilst we were removing it we found this match box from the pub which used to be at the bottom of the hill. The router for the broadband was delivered today so Joan got that all set up. Later she did a Contact Creator Zoom call.

So today it was Operation Exodus 2.0.   The engineer had come to fix our range and therefore we aren't going back in the house till Monday.   We packed the cats and the dog, picked up a takeaway from The Dev and headed off to Peak Dale. Nights are lengthening and we got there just after 5. We took some newly purchased bean bags and an old coffee table to make the lounge a more relaxing place. Cats seemed settled now.

Kevin replaced the shelf in the middle room alcove and took down the shelf brackets from the alcoves either side of the fireplace in the front room. Joan steam cleaned the two front windows and demoulded the inside of the kitchen window, as well as Dysoning and steaming downstairs. Left mid afternoon.

Kevin took out the brickwork in the middle room.   Joan managed to get both lamps working - at last! More cleaning and then a butternut squash, pearl barley and sage risotto for an early dinner.
