30/12/2020: Into Tier 4

Image
We had intended to go to the house yesterday but we awoke to a carpet of snow and decided against it after looking at The Cat and Fiddle and Winking Man webcams. So part of the day was spent registering with High Peak Borough Council and signing up with SSE for gas, electric and broadband. Joan also spent what was an inordinate amount of time working out whether you can paint inside of kitchen cabinets and which paint to use.  Product was ordered. Today we set off later than planned as we were expecting a delivery of the new curtains, etc for the bedroom.  Once they'd arrived we set out into a snow covered Peak. At SKE one of our neighbours had kindly put out the recycling bin for us. Kevin set to work boxing off some ugly looking pipework in the dining room using wood salvaged from the built in wardrobes he ripped out two days ago. Joan cleaned the kitchen sink, scrubbed the boot room floor, cleaned the very DIY bathroom cupboards, started tidying up the main bedr...

28/12/2020: A walk into Peak Dale

We didn't sleep in late as we had an Ocado order between 6.30 and 7.30 am.  The forecast was for snow in the Peak and we could see that there indeed were modest accumulations at the Cat and Fiddle and at the Winking Man via their webcams. Driving over, fog was more of an issue than snow, and it was only as we approached Tideswell that we saw a light dusting. Today K worked in the main bedroom, taking out the 1970s Louvre fitted wardrobes which were rickety and held together by nails. I cleaned the upper cupboards in the kitchen.  They were a bit gunky and obviously very old. Then around 1 pm we walked into the main part of Peak Dale. The footpath we took was closed by DCC and an alternative path that somebody had beaten was quite treacherous so we retraced our steps and walked along the road. The first building we saw was the Great Rocks Social Club - a big building in good condition - but currently closed as we're in Tier 3 Covid restrictio...

26/12/2020: Cleaning

Image
My sister bought me this Lucy Pittaway booklet for Christmas and I am going to use it as the house log. Today Kevin cleaned the cooker, hobs and rings and Joan vacuumed, dusted all rooms and mopped out bathroom.

24/12/2020: First steps

So this was the first time we really got to see what we had bought.   We got the keys on 21st but decided to leave it for three days before we went in to stay extra safe. And we found we had a potential third bedroom in the loft that someone had begun installing. There was already a Velux in.
